Meet Jim Borland

Jim Borland

James Borland grew up in Middletown, Ohio. He has one brother, Bill, an engineer in Atlanta, Georgia, and one sister, MaryAnn, a choral conductor in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Jim has worked for Quinn, Johnston, Henderson, Pretorius & Cerulo since his law school graduation in 1991, and currently serves as managing partner of its Springfield office.

During Jim's enrollment in Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu, California, he was able to interact with many movie stars during his visits to the nearby beach. Some of his "friends" at the local grocery store included Cher, Dick Van Dyke, Charlie Sheen and Johnny Carson. Also, Jim enjoyed the annual Battle of the Network Stars filmed on Pepperdine's campus.

While Jim loves his career at Quinn, Johnston, Henderson, Pretorius & Cerulo, he sometimes wishes he had worked harder on becoming Major League Baseball's first switch pitcher. Unfortunately, he gave up on the dream after he continually began to plunk batters with regularity. If Jim had to choose a different career, he would enjoy working as a golf pro or a travel agent specializing in Caribbean vacations.

Jim has been married to his wife, Suzanne, for twelve years. They have a son, Drew, age 7, a daughter, Jessica, age 6, and a black Labrador, Sadie, age 9. Jim enjoys travel, sand volleyball, golf, boating, and coaching his children's sports teams. His guilty pleasures include playing Wii, especially Tiger Woods golf. Jim also enjoys attending, as well as eating his way through the State Fair. His eclectic entertainment tastes include movies such as "Braveheart", "Hoosiers" and , yes, "Waterworld", as well as television shows "Lost", "Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern" and, of course, "Man v. Food".

After realizing that law school had not prepared him very well for the day-to-day schedule of a defense attorney, Jim found that the support within, Quinn, Johnston, Henderson, Pretorius & Cerulo was very helpful. Each partner provided guidance to Jim at his every request, however, Jim especially cherishes the experience and wisdom he received from R. Michael "Mick" Henderson who stressed not only the end result but also how to practice law on a daily basis.
