Pace Setter status was accomplished through the Inaugural Law Firm Challenge. Every one of the eleven College of Law alumni at the firm committed a gift to the Annual Fund as of December 31, 2010, making QJHPC the largest alumni contingent to reach 100% participation in the nation. In addition, the firm was the first of its size category to reach the 100% participation level. Peter Jennetten obtained summary judgment in favor of District 150 and two of its officials in a wrongful discharge claim brought by the former principal of Lindbergh Middle School.

The Council is a nonpartisan alliance comprised of thousands of insurance companies, corporations, Corporate Counsel, Litigation and Risk Managers, claims professionals and attorneys. Through education and collaboration the organization’s goals are to create a common interest in the representation by firms of companies, and to promote and further the highest standards of litigation management in pursuit of client defense. Selected attorneys and law firms are extended membership by invitation only based on nominations from CLM Fellows.

Adam Chaddock recently defended a head-on accident. Plaintiff asked for an award in excess of $90,000. The jury returned a verdict in favor of Plaintiff, apportioning fault 50% to Plaintiff and 50% to Defendant. The jury awarded $21,400 in total damages. After the 50% reduction in damages for Plaintiff's fault, Plaintiff recovered $10,700, well under the last pre-trial offer.

Jim Borland recently had a summary judgment granted in favor of our client in an automobile accident case in Adams County.

Laura Petersen will be giving a presentation to the Pekin Hospital Medical Executive Committee on June 15 on the topic of confidentiality and peer review.

On May 20,  Kevin Miller spoke to the Peoria County Bar Association on the topic of "Ethics in Transactions."  The seminar was attended by more than 175 attorneys from Peoria and the surrounding area.  Mr. Miller serves as the President-Elect of the PCBA.

In March, Matt Smith assisted as local counsel in achieving summary judgement on a $2.3 million breach of contract action pending in the Central District federal court.

Also in March, Matt Smith gave an invited lecture to the 2011 Illinois Central College School of Nursing graduating class.  He resisted the urge to spring a pop quiz on the students.  As he noted, however, "If I ever see any of you in my office, I'll know you weren't paying attention."  (No sign of them yet!)

Murv Pretorius and Elizabeth Larsen recently received a not guilty in a medical malpractice case.  Murv and Elizabeth defended a neurosurgeon who had been sued for malpractice following a back surgery.  The trial lasted five days, and jury deliberations took approximately two hours, after which the not guilty verdict was returned.

Dave Collins and Dennis Merkley recently had a summary judment granted in favor of our clients affirmed by the appellate court.

Dennis Merkley and Elizabeth Larsen recently obtained summary judgment in favor of our client on a slip and fall case.
