Greg Cerulo recently teamed with Peoria orthopedic surgeon Ronald Palmer, M.D. on a presentation “How to Interact with Attorneys” given to the membership of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and subsequently in Grand Rounds to several orthopaedic departments in hospitals located in Illinois, Pennsylvania and Florida.
Jon Stump recently tried a case in Peoria County. Plaintiff claimed a bladder laceration from her seatbelt and $20,000 in medical expenses. The defense contended that the accident was Plaintiff’s fault for looking over her shoulder and talking to her husband and son in the back seat, instead of looking forward to see our client’s vehicle protruding ever so slightly into her lane. The jury returned a verdict in favor of the Defendant.
Several QJHP&C attorneys were recently selected as “Super Lawyers” for 2011. These attorneys include Murv Pretorius, Greg Cerulo, Peter Jennetten and Kevin Miller. Laura Petersen, Jo Wetherill and Elizabeth Larsen were named as 2011 “Rising Stars.” Mick Henderson and Bob Jennetten, both of counsel to the firm, were also recognized as 2011 “Super Lawyers.”
Murv Pretorius and Laura Petersen recently tried a case in Peoria County. They defended a doctor in a medical malpractice case involving a post-surgical complication. The trial, which lasted a week and a half, involved testimony from several experts. The jury deliberated for less than an hour and 45 minutes and returned a verdict in favor of all Defendants.
Greg Cerulo was recently recognized by Leading Lawyers Network in a peer-based selection process in 2011, for the eighth consecutive year, as an Illinois leading lawyer for product liability defense and general personal injury defense.
Jo Wetherill recently co-chaired the Peoria County Bar Association annual Civil Practice Seminar. Two QJHP&C attorneys gave presentations at the seminar. Greg Cerulo spoke on Discovery Strategies for Mediation vs. Trial. Matt Smith presented on Trial Techniques for the 2011 Jury.
Greg Cerulo recently obtained summary judgment for a trailer manufacturer in companion death and catastrophic injury cases involving a tractor/trailer, mini van, passenger truck accident which cases were settled at mediation thereafter for a sum in excess of $10,000,000.00.
QJHP&C attorneys Dave Collins and Jennifer Morris were recently recognized in the February Peoria County Bar Association newsletter for their efforts in providing legal assistance to two brothers in support of the Peoria County Pro Bono Plan.
Greg Cerulo recently obtained inter district venue transfer of a legal malpractice claim pending in the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois to the United District Court Southern District of New York, which acted to terminate the incentive of the opponent to pursue the litigation.
Greg Cerulo and Dave Collins recently obtained summary judgment in favor of a premises owner in a wrongful death case. Plaintiff claimed that decedent’s exposure to asbestos at Defendant’s premises caused mesothelioma, resulting in Plaintiff’s decedent’s death. The Court granted summary judgment in favor of our client and several other Defendants. Although Plaintiff appealed the ruling as to several Defendants, he did not seek an appeal of that portion of the Order granting summary judgment in favor of our client.
On February 12, John Kamin presented an update on the proposed legislative changes to the Illinois Workers' Compensation Act as well as an update on recent cases concerning workers' compensation at the Peoria County Bar Association's annual workers' compensation law seminar.
